Here are the four best free Chrome extensions to improve the Netflix website.
1. Super Leaves
The Super Browse Chrome extension claims you can search through Netflix’s “secret” categories. Netflix already has some categories for TV shows and movies, but apparently they’re getting a lot more specific so you can narrow down titles to exactly what you want to watch.
When testing the extension, it appears that Netflix has some secret categories. The extension adds a Super Browse navigation button top of the page. When you hover over it, you’ll see all the additional categories Netflix has hidden – a few dozen – and you can search through those categories too. However, you cannot search for individual titles and unfortunately this will not reveal new content.
2. Enhancer
NEnhancer adds a few features to thumbnails of movies and TV shows from Netflix. Hovering over the mouse pointer now also shows the Rotten Tomatoes IMDb rating, critic and ratings below the description, and a link to watch the trailer in a pop-over.
Note: This only works with certain titles, which are titles that are popular enough to receive ratings. Plus, trailers only work for movies, as TV shows don’t have them. When NEnhancer works it’s super handy to filter out bad titles before you get a chance to check them out.
3. Netflix party
Netflix Party takes Netflix and chilling to a whole new level, although it can be both one level up or one level down, depending on how you view it. With this extension you can invite everyone to a virtual viewing party. The icon will remain stationary in the Google Chrome toolbar until you start watching something on Netflix. Just click on it, share the auto-generated link with whoever you want to watch with and enjoy. A chat window is displayed up on the right so you can talk about the show too.
Note: In order for others to participate, they must also install the Netflix Party extension.
4. Ultra-wide aspect ratio for Netflix
Ultrawide Display Aspect Ratio for Netflix (quite a mouthful) does a few things for your Netflix experience, depending on your device. If you watch Netflix on a wide 21: 9 screen, the letterbox framing standard 16: 9 content on the Netflix website disappears.
Additionally, if you still suffer from letterboxing on a screen with a more standard aspect ratio (16: 9, 16:10, 4: 3), the extension removes vertical letterboxing on the left and right sides by zooming in and the top – and bottom of the video. What this means anyway is that you get an image that fills your entire screen with no black borders.
