As for the design, the Sony WH-CH710N headphones are made of a hard plastic shell to save costs. The ear cups and headband are made of molded plastic. These are over-ear headphones with a closed back. It weighs about 223 grams and is easy to carry around. However, the company did not include a case or a simple bag to pack the headset – another cost-saver. There is Sony branding on the outside of both ear cups. The inside is well padded and hugs the ears when worn. Although the headphones themselves are not foldable, the ear cups can be rotated 90 degrees so you can lay them flat on the table. The headphones have two microphones located on either side of the unit. To control the headphones, the Sony WH-CH710N has a total of six buttons. On the right side are the volume controls, a play/pause button that can also be used to answer/reject calls. Long pressing this button will also activate Google Assistant on your device. However, we could not access Siri on iOS devices. On the right side, there is also a multifunction button that allows you to enable/disable ambient noise and activate noise cancellation. On the left side, there is a Type-C port for charging, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a power button that can also be used for long press pairing with a new device. There is also NFC on the left ear cup for faster pairing. The Sony WH-CN710 uses Bluetooth 5.0 and does not support Hi-Res audio like the in-house LDAC codec or aptX. Only the SBC and AAC audio codecs are supported. To pair the device for the first time, you just have to long press the power button and search for the name “Sony WH-CN710” on your smartphone/laptop. The device also supports NFC, so you can use your Android smartphone with NFC to pair the device.
