Pre-filter, AOC carbon filter, real HEPA filter and Winix PlasmaWave technology make this air purifier an effective device for combating air pollution. The Winix 5500-2 is a well-designed air purifier made of high-quality material. Many consumers find the design of this air purifier a bit outdated, but for me it is acceptable. The sleek design with the neutral black color allows this air purifier to be placed in almost any room. The air intake is on the front and also on each side. The good thing is that the filtered air is discharged at the top of the device. This feature is beneficial because the air does not flow directly into you when you stand in front of it. At the top of the front of the air purifier is the control panel, which offers many options and gives you ultimate control. Above the control buttons are LED indicators that show which functions are currently active. Also, just below the PlasmaWave button is a very long LED indicator that lights up in different colors depending on the current air quality. Behind the control panel is a handle for effortless transport. The Winix 5500-2 is also easy to transport because it is not too heavy. The control panel uses buttons instead of the touch panel. This means that you have to press a button, and putting your finger on a button is not enough. However, the buttons are easy to press, so operating the Winix 5500-2 air purifier is not a problem. When you press the fan speed button, the manual mode is activated, and you can select the desired fan speed. Each time you press the button, the blower speed will change. To set how long the 5500-2 should operate, you must press the Timer key. You can select a different time, and the air purifier will automatically turn off when the selected time is up. With this Winix, you can set the timer to 1 hour, 4 hours or 8 hours. The Winix 5500-2 is a lightweight air purifier; it weighs only 14.7 lb. Its handle is very helpful when moving it from room to room. In terms of its size, it is quite a large air purifier with dimensions of 8.2 x 15.0 x 23.6 inches. Such a huge air purifier can be a problem to find a good place in the room. Just make sure it is 12 – 18 inches away from the TV, radio and other electronic devices, and move it at least 4 inches from the wall.
