YouTube Music is Google’s latest foray into taking on the giants of the music streaming world. Google keeps adding new ones features like smart playlists, but old features like regular playlists give many nightmares. Several users have reported that YouTube Music does not download songs from playlists to their smartphones. Other users say that playlists are not completely downloaded and several songs disappear from the playlists. 1. Remove and try again
It’s old trick but sometimes works. A glitch or error of some sort can cause YouTube Music not to download all songs in the playlist or stop halfway through. Tap Library and select Downloads.
Tap the three-dot menu icon next to the playlist you want to delete and select Delete Download. Go back to Library and under Playlists, select the playlist you want to download. Tap the menu icon and select Download.
2. Availability
YouTube has a huge library of videos and you will often find multiple versions of the same song on the platform. The one you added to your playlist may no longer be available. For example, I added Ruby from Kaiser Chiefs to a playlist, and it was later unavailable.
A simple search on YouTube and the YouTube Music app shows that the song has disappeared, but another version is available. I recommend that you always add songs from the artist / label’s official channels if possible. Another problem can be regional availability. You will see a public playlist of songs you like and add it. But are those songs available in your country? So many factors play a role, such as music rights and label contracts. While most of the artists have a presence on YouTube, the odds are still there.
3. Limitations
Two factors limit the number of songs you can add and download to a playlist. The first is the storage space of your smartphone. How much do you have left? Open Settings and check under About phone
YouTube has imposed the second. Felix Beuster, a product expert, notes that YouTube playlists are limited to 5000 videos. So YouTube Music playlists should have the same limitation I suppose. While that’s a generous figure, some experienced users may have hit the upper limit.
4. Storage rights
Open Settings and go to Apps> Manage apps and find and open YouTube Music. Things might be a little different based on the phone you’re using.
Tap on App permissions and make sure Storage is selected.
You can try turning it off and then turning it on again once to get things going. Check if playlists are still not fully downloaded in YouTube Music.
5. Download settings
To help you save mobile bandwidth, YouTube Music comes with a setting called Download over Wi-Fi only. Tap your profile picture and select Library & Downloads under Settings.

6. Synchronize newly added songs
So what happens when you download a playlist and add a new song to it? Ideally, it should automatically download it to your device. Some users have complained that the sync is not working as intended and the number is not available offline. That works as advertised and takes about 24-48 hours. That is slow, but it works.
Some users say that downloading the playlist from the Playlist tab works instead of the playlist list. I don’t think that’s the case, but you can try.
7. Clear cache, delete data
Old cache data can prevent the YouTube Music app from downloading playlists. Open the app list in Settings like you did before and find and open the YouTube Music app.
Tap Clear data button at the bottom of the screen and delete the cache and data.
You may need to log in to the YouTube Music app again and all your downloaded playlists will disappear. Remember that.
8. Clean reinstall
I would recommend removing all cache files and data from you mobileas in the step above, before uninstalling the YouTube Music app. That would give you a fresh start and eliminate all chances of bugs and errors. It also allows you to download the latest version of the app from the Play Store.
9. Other account
Do you have a different Google account? Try that and see if the error persists. You can ask your friends and family for help.
